What we do around a house in fire country

Six kinds of work, always planned from the wall outward. Most jobs use three or four of them.

  • Zone 0 hardening

Gravel, pavers or bare ground against the walls. Wood mulch and dry litter out. Deck, fence and woodpile edges cleared.

    The three zones
  • Planting for fire country

Low, spaced, watered plants for zone 1, chosen with you from the lists your county and fire district publish.

    Plants for the rings
  • Brush clearing and thinning

Dead brush and fallen limbs out, shrubs and young trees thinned, in zone 2. Chipped on site or hauled away.

  • Limbing and pruning

Lower limbs pruned up and away from roofs, done by a climber on a rope. We check for protected trees first.

  • Grass and weed cutting

Cut before it dries and timed to your fire district's date. Hand tools or a string trimmer on cool mornings.

  • Return visits

A spring visit and a late-summer check so the rings stay what they were. Priced as a line on the estimate.

How it works

From the site walk to the second look

  1. Step 1: The site walk

We walk each ring with you, measure and photograph. You tell us what to keep.

  2. Step 2: The map and the scope

You get a map of your lot with the three zones marked, and a written estimate with a price for each zone.

  3. Step 3: The work, ring by ring

Zone 0 first, then 1, then 2. Power tools stay off on red flag days.

  4. Step 4: The final walk

We walk the finished lot with you and send dated photos of each zone with the balance due.

  5. Step 5: The second look

If you added a return visit, we come back in the dry season to check regrowth.

Start with a walk

The walk is where the map begins. Book it, or text us a photo of the side facing the hill.
