Questions

Questions and answers

Will this lower my insurance bill?

We can't say. Insurers decide for themselves, and some ask for proof of defensible-space work while others don't. Ask yours what it wants to see before we start, and we'll write the scope and photos to match. We don't promise a discount or coverage.

What does it cost?

It depends on the lot: area, slope, brush, trees and where the debris goes. The page on how pricing works lists each part. The number comes in writing after the site walk.

How soon can you start, and how long does it take?

After the walk we write the scope with a start and finish window. Zones 0 and 1 go quickly; most of the time is in zone 2, where the brush and trees are. Weather and red flag days can move a day.

Are you licensed and insured?

Our California contractor license is in the footer of every page, with a link to the state board's lookup. We send a certificate of insurance with the written scope if you ask.

What happens at the site walk?

About an hour. We walk each ring with you, measure, take photos and ask what you want to keep. Afterward we send a map and a written estimate with a price for each zone.

How do I pay?

A deposit books the crew. The balance is due after we walk the finished lot with you. The estimate states each amount and the methods we take.

What if it's a red flag day, or it rains?

We don't run mowers, saws or grinders on a red flag warning or a hot, dry, windy afternoon. Rain doesn't stop planting or hand work. We tell you when we move a visit.

What should I do before you come?

Move cars, patio furniture and firewood away from the house if you can. Tell us about buried irrigation, septic and gas lines, and tie a ribbon on any plant you want to keep.

Does my city or county have its own rules?

Yes. The county, each city and each fire district set their own requirements, and some lots are inspected. We read your district's list at the walk and write the scope to meet it. We can't give you an inspection result.

Which areas do you serve?

Santa Rosa and northern Sonoma County, from Cloverdale to Kenwood, plus Napa and Calistoga. The service area page lists the towns and the places we don't go.

Do you speak Spanish?

Yes. Odalys, who schedules visits and writes the estimates, speaks Spanish, and so do some on the crew, though not everyone. Every page here has a Spanish version, and we can write your estimate in Spanish.

Still have a question?

Write it here, or call. Any of them reaches the same people.
